Do I need to be “in shape” to try pole dancing or aerial fitness?
No! Any body is a pole body. The point of pole and aerial fitness are to have fun while getting exercise, so just like going to the gym you can start from 0 and work your way up.
What should I wear to class?
The most important thing is to wear something you feel comfortable in! But for those of you who want specifics I recommend wearing shorts and a t-shirt, tank top, or sports bra for regular pole classes. For pole choreography classes, any clothing is fine but kneepads and socks or heels are highly recommended! For aerial hoop and yoga, long exercise pants and a t-shirt, tank top, or sports bra.
Do I need to have prior experience to take a group lesson or private lesson?
Nope! I will start you from the beginning and progressively work up the curriculum with you.
Do you need to be a certain age to start pole dancing?
My classes are intended for adults, but anyone 18+ can definitely start pole dancing with me! I currently have students ranging from 18–65.
Are classes female only?
Nope! All gender identities are welcome and encouraged to take a group class with me.
Is there anything I can do to prepare for my first class?
Not really. All ability levels and body types are welcome in my class, but make sure to bring comfortable sports attire, a water bottle, your phone, and a good attitude!
Who can sign up for the different class styles?
Anyone can sign up for all levels classes! It really means all levels, so don’t be nervous to sign up for that class even if it’s your first lesson. I encourage my intro/beginner students to sign up for those designated classes, but always come to the class time that works best for you! Pole choreo classes are also open to anyone even if it’s your first ever pole class, but hoop choreo has pre-requisites of having taken at least 3–5 classes and generally feeling comfortable getting into and out of the hoop. Yoga classes, both traditional and aerial, are open to anyone. For more info check out my description of each class here!
How does the levelling work?
In my pole and aerial classes, you will start as a beginner and work your way through intermediate, advanced, and expert over our time together! My curriculum is progressive and comprehensive so that you can learn safely and effectively. No yoga classes are levelled.
Where do you buy your pole outfits?
I shop at a lot of places for pole clothes, and love trying to find cheaper alternatives! Great options for beginners are normal activewear stores like Lulu Lemon or you can even wear bathing suits. For people who want pole-designated clothing, my favourite stores are CXIX and Rad Polewear. These are just a few options, but if you’d like to know more feel free to message me directly for recommendations!
Do I need to wear high heels? And where do you buy pole shoes?
Platform heels are not required for regular classes, but I do typically wear mine when teaching choreography. They can be quite pricey so socks can be a great cheaper alternative to heels! I buy most of my shoes from Hella Heels because I love the fit and styles. However, this is a more expensive company, so a great option for fellow Canadians is ShoeFreaks. This website sells traditional Pleasers and many other brands, as well.
Do I need to warm up/cool down on my own?
Nope! The first portion of class time will always be dedicated to warming up, and the last portion of class will be focused on cooling down.
