Hi, I’m Teghann!
I started pole dancing in 2014 when I was looking for a new hobby as a way to make friends. Prior to pole dance, no hobbies every really stuck! I tried soccer, gymnastics, and dance as a kid and never felt anything was right for me. When I took my first pole class I was honestly terrible. I had such bad bruising on my legs my mom told me she didn’t want me to try again, but I had had such a fun time I couldn’t wait for my next class! I spent every night for the next week thinking about each spin I learned and how I could engage my muscles properly to get every movement perfect. And when I went back for my second class, everything somehow felt easier! Seeing that improvement was so motivating that I bought a membership and never looked back.
In 2016, I began teaching pole at Acrofit. I had never thought about teaching pole prior to that, but when a friend who worked at Acrofit asked if I’d do it I thought “why not?” I spent the next year practicing as frequently as possible, recording myself, writing down every movement I made in every trick, and learning as much as I could about pole. As I did all of this, I started creating my own curriculum. Every few months I still go through and rework this curriculum to make it the most comprehensive and safe curriculum for my students!
While pole is my first and longest love, I also teach aerial hoop, aerial yoga, and traditional yoga. Aerial hoop was the second apparatus I tried, and with it and pole being so similar I loved it immediately. Aerial yoga and traditional yoga are more recent additions to my teaching resume. I’ve practiced yoga since I was a little kid watching VHS tapes with my mom in the living room. And in 2021, I decided to finally do what I’d been thinking about for years and take my 200hr yoga training. Since then, I’ve taught aerial yoga at Acrofit and Hatha yoga at Evolution.
On a more personal note, I grew up in Kamloops and moved to Surrey immediately after graduating high school. I went to SFU and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Education in 2018. After graduating, I realized I didn’t want to be an elementary school teacher because my true happiness was in teaching adults in a fitness atmosphere! I pride myself on being an inclusive, kind, and funny person and teacher. And I try to always go above and beyond in making people feel welcomed, appreciated, and respected. I consider all my students my friends, and aim to make everyone feel more confident, capable, and strong in all capacities of life!
